Sauer 101 Wolverine: the "made in Gemany" rifle evolves into new .222 and .223 Remington variants

The Ergo Flex laminated wood stock allows the height of the comb to be easily adjusted to suit the optic.

Launched on the market in 2013, the Sauer 101 has quickly become an "instant classic" thanks to its excellent value for money, its undeniable mechanical qualities and the fascination that its manufacturer's name still exerts on European hunters. It is a bolt-action rifle designed to offer a premium-quality firearm at a price little higher than that of an "entry level" gun. Over the years, the Sauer 101 has been made available in several variants, including left-handed ones, with wooden or polymer stock and in many European and American calibers. In each case, the heart of the action is the six-lug bolt locking directly into the barrel, with a 60-degree throw to facilitate the mounting of optics. The trigger is direct, with a pull weight of 950 grams and using a wide Match-type trigger blade. Sauer 101 rifles feature the unique Dura Safe safety that acts directly on the firing pin, mechanically locking it. The safety slide is located behind the bolt and is ergonomic and easy to operate with the thumb. To disengage the safety, a button integrated in the slide must be pressed, preventing accidental release. An additional "safe opener" button allows the bolt to be opened to unload the gun while the main safety is still engaged.

Sauer 101 success continues with two American calibers

The Sauer 101 Wolverine features the proprietary Dura Safe safety in a central position under the bolt nut.

From now on, the Sauer 101 becomes even more versatile with the addition to the lineup of the Wolverine model, chambered in .222 Remington and .223 Remington, which are ideal for pest control but also for sport shooting. The barrel is cold-hammer forged and produced in-house at the Sauer factory in Isny. Although nominally only a thousandth of an inch distinguishes them, and even if the latter derives directly from the former, the two calibers have important differences: the .223 Remington has a longer case length and a larger powder capacity than the .222 Remington, which translates into a higher muzzle velocity of approximately 200-250 feet per second (60-75 metres per second).

Like the animal it is named after, the Sauer 101 Wolverine is powerful and strong. Its compact length guarantees exceptional handling and accuracy, even when fitted with a silencer (where allowed), which makes it an ideal gun for predator  hunting. The Ergo Flex laminated wood thumbhole stock is ergonomically designed and equipped with an adjustable comb for optimal control and safe shooting. The 510-mm heavy barrel guarantees accuracy even during extended shooting sessions. Durable and rugged, the Sauer 101 Wolverine withstands all weather conditions thanks to its DLC-coated barrel and receiver. The rifle's forward-shifted center of gravity aids a steadier hold when aiming. One of the most classic features of this otherwise very modern rifle is the absence of metal sights and, above all, Picatinny rails for mounting a scope. This must be mounted as in the old days, i.e. with a pair of rings screwed onto the receiver.

According to the manufacturer, "Starting in the second quarter of 2026, the Sauer 101 becomes even more versatile: with the fast .222 Rem and .223 Rem calibers, a new dimension opens up for predator hunters and sport shooters. These light, fast cartridges offer minimal recoil and maximum precision because less recoil means better shot control and faster target acquisition. Their flat trajectory and high velocity make them ideal for foxes, raccoon dogs, and other predator species, as well as for range use. Combined with the proven technology of the Sauer 101, the result is a system that unites speed, precision, and ergonomics".

The Sauer 101 Wolverine was already available in 6.5x55 SE, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6XC, .308 Winchester and 8.5x55 Blaser.
