Kimber USA – ambitious marksmen probably think of 1911-style pistols instead of large-caliber rifles when they hear this name. However, the manufacturer also knows how to impress in the rifle segment as well. After all, Kimber once made a reputation for itself on the American market with highly precise .22 rifles. Hence, it is no wonder that Kimber is also known for big-bore bolt-action rifles in the USA.
From this segment, we had a closer look at and tested out the Kimber 84M LPT in .223 Rem. It is a bolt action rifle that has been consistently designed for professionals in the law enforcement sector. However, this firearm for the public sector also impresses in other possible applications due to its natural qualities. By the way, the “LPT” in the name stands for Light Police Tactical.
Characteristics of the Kimber 84M LPT bolt action rifle
The Kimber 84M LPT in .223 Rem. comes with a 22-inch long fluted bull barrel – approx. 56 cm – with an attractive matte black finish. The slide with a long extractor with a MAUSER design houses a relatively small firing chamber. The stock is made of laminated wood with a black epoxy finish. It only looks like it is made of polymer. The end of the stock is covered with a Pachmayr butt plate which reduces recoil.
The rifle generally feels good in the hand and the slightly rough surface structure provides sufficient grip. However, marksmen who are looking for custom adjustment options for the stock will be disappointed. The Kimber 84M LPT is also available in .308 Winchester.

A 3-position safety that uses the same principle as the one on the Winchester 70 provides for easy operation and safety when handling the bolt action rifle. The magazine on the Kimber 84M LPT in .223 Rem. holds 6 rounds.
The trigger is custom-configurable. The factory-configured trigger pull is roughly between 1,360 g and 1,590 g, whereby the trigger is crisp and breaks as hard as glass upon reaching the pull weight.
Technical Data of the Kimber 84M LPT
The bolt action rifle does not have open sights. However, it has an approx. 1 cm high MIL-STD Picatinny rail. This provides marksmen with a host of options for customizing the rifle to their needs where sights are concerned — a wide range of potential mounts and scopes are available.
We tested the Kimber 84M LPT in combination with the ZEISS Conquest V6 2-12×50 rifle scope. This piece of equipment is a typical all-round rifle scope for hunting, with a wide zoom range and objective lens diameter.
The total length is 105 cm, and the bolt action rifle weighs around 3,600 g. Furthermore, the rifle features 2 eyelets for a carrying strap, and allows for the use of a bipod.

Our verdict on the Kimber 84M LPT bolt action rifle
The Kimber 84M LTP 22″ bolt action rifle is a relatively light tactical rifle. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the firearm appears especially easy to handle for law enforcement operations in urban areas. Furthermore, the combination of the trigger, match barrel, and firing chamber ensure absolute precision. This predestines the rifle for the firing range, but it can certainly also be recommended for hunting roe deer or small predators.
The Kimber 84M LPT in .223 Rem. is practically obligatory for true fans of firearms for law enforcement. We were also impressed with the bolt action rifle when testing it at the range. It not only felt good in the hand, but was also extremely precise when shooting. Furthermore, the rifle can be cycled and reloaded both easily and rapidly.

Kimber manufacturing plans 38 million Dollar investment in Alabama for 2019:
January 2018: Kimber announced they will expand operations to central Alabama in 2019. The new design, engineering and manufacturing facility in Troy/Alabama will expand the brand's footprint to 3 states, including the home base in New York and the factory in Montana.
“This is a dream come true for the City of Troy and for me personally,” said Mayor Jason Reeves (Troy/Alabama). “A firearms manufacturing company with such a stellar brand as Kimber, creating jobs and capital investment for the community. Troy has a strong manufacturing base and Kimber will certainly, positively add to that.”
The American manufacturer introduced its first big game rifle in the form of the Kimber 8400 Caprivi in .375 H&H Magnum. We tested this rifle at the shooting range.
