The market for sub-compact and back-up pistols has always been quite lively and at Springfield Armory they know that. So no wonder that they are now introducing a new .380 ACP pistol aptly named “911”, like the emergency phone number.
Designed for life-saving defensive use at close range, according to the payoff the Springfield Armory’s 911 .380 is in fact the gun you should use “when you have to be you own first responder”.
Features of the Springfield Armory 911 pistol
It's a very compact pistol with a “1911sh” look with a lightweight 7075 T6 aluminum frame and an overall length of 5.5” (139 mm) and 3.9” (99 mm) high with flush magazine (4.5” with magazine extension).
The slide is offered in two versions, black Nitride or stainless 416 steel. General profile is snag-free as it's appropriate for a self-defense gun that should be concealed under clothing. With a 2.7” (68 mm) barrel, the 911 is indeed the most concealable pistol ever produced by Springfield Armory. The weight with empty magazine is 12.6 oz (357 g).
The grip features a Springfield’s Octo-Grip front strap texturing complimented by a G10 Octo-Grip textured mainspring housing for a good purchase.
Other specs include green-and-black G10 Thin-line grips and a short reset, crisp 5-pound G10 trigger shoe by Hogue that, the Company claims, give the feel of shooting a full-sized firearm. For improved reliability, the recoil system uses a full length guide rod with a flat wire spring.
The 911 .380 features an ambidextrous safety and is equipped with a loaded chamber indicator.
Sights consist in an Ameriglo Pro-Glo green tritium front sight inside a yellow luminescent circle and a tactical rack rear sight with green tritium inside of white luminescent circles.
The 911 is also offered with integrated green Viridian laser grips for an easier target acquisition.
The new Springfield Armory pistol is shipped with a flush 6-round and 7-round extended magazine. MSRP in the US is 599.00 USD (497 Euro), 789.00 USD (655 Euro) for the version with integrated green Viridian laser grips. The new model is mainly targeting the US market. As we all know "concealed carry" is just a very small niche in most EU countries.
