The Ruger Firearms company – already a top seller in the field of striker-fired pistols with its SR-line of handguns – is launching this year a higher-end model, conceived for defensive and service purposes as well as for tactical applications. Based on the latest and most stringent US military standards, the Ruger American Pistol is a polymer-frame pistol with a modular grip and a machined blued steel slide.
The Ruger American Pistol is a striker-fired design, sporting a light double-action trigger as well as an ambidextrous magazine release and slide stop lever. Its low center of gravity, the low-mass slide, the low bore axis and the peculiar design of the barrel cam all contribute to reduce recoil and muzzle climb to a minimum.
The 9mm caliber variant of the Ruger American Pistol sports a 4.2” barrel and feeds through double-stack 17+1-rounds magazines; the .45 ACP variant features a 4.5” barrel and uses 10+1-rounds magazines.
