The Fausti Italyco over/under was designed for hunters who want a gun with a fine and elegant line that’s easily recognised in the very best Italian Style, thanks to the engraving on the round body action.
Technically however, the Italyco is designed to be an extremely versatile gun that can be used for all the main types of hunting, with custom components in true Fausti tradition, especially in terms of barrels; available in various lengths and a range of chokes, as well as in the rifled bores, which makes the Italyco an Express shotgun well-suited to all major European and American rifled bores.
The most sophisticated version of the Fausti Italyco with long side plates is called the SLX, but the gun is also available without side plates.
The fine hand-engraved decorations are signed by the craftsman and can be customised to meet the customer’s requirements in a variety of themes. In this case we’ll be taking a look at one of the most recent guns, the Fausti Italyco Tema 4, with floral engraving enriched by game and hunting scenes.
The manufacturer obviously took meticulous care when designing this gun, not only in aesthetic terms, but also as the special coin finish gives the box lock action with its long trigger guard a thinner, unmistakably traditional look, with something of a modern touch.
Being the antique silver version, this Tema 4 has a Silver action specifically sized for the various bores of reference ranging from 12-gauge, 16-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge and .410, which is produced using the same sized action as the 28-gauge.
The Fausti company logo along with the model of the gun are inlaid in gilt on the underside of the action.
An engraved pheasant and a quail in flight decorate both sides of the long side plates. The trigger guard is wide and well-rounded for fast and easy aiming.
The oil-finished 4 A European walnut with fine hand-chequering perfectly complements the metal parts to add another touch of elegance.
Stocks are made-to-measure in the style best-suited to the type of hunting and customer’s measurements.
Grips are available in the pistol grip version enriched with metal decoration or the classic Prince-of-Wales grip. The coral red rubber butt plate helps dampen recoil and reduce muzzle rise, in the finest aesthetic tradition.
The narrow English forend is sleek and fast in your hand when taking aim. The selective single trigger system has a selector built into the safety but a two-trigger system is also available on request.
Cartridge extraction is automatic, but a manual version is also available on request.
The barrel lengths available make the Fausti Italyco an over/under that can be used for both walked-up hunting with gun dogs where you want a gun that’s fast to aim that gives you a well-distributed spread at short to medium ranges; and by hunters who prefer to hunt from a hide where a compact spread at medium to long ranges can make all the difference.
With 70 and 76 mm chambers, barrel lengths range from 60 cm to 63 - 65 - 67.5 - 71 - 73 - 76 – and 81 cm. The range of chokes that can be used with the gun are further proof of its versatility, with fixed or internal interchangeable chokes available on request. The Fausti Italyco SLX Tema 4 therefore offers many different solutions. It’s an elegant shotgun, as are all Fausti arms, and something for the most demanding hunter.
