“Experience an icon reborn” is Sako's payoff for its new 85 Finnlight II rifle, the latest incarnation of the Finnlight name. As you can guess, this Finnish rifle is pretty light indeed thanks to its aerospace-grade RTM fiberglass stock that makes the whole weapon comfortable to carry. Moreover, all Finnlight II stocks have a carbon fiber bedding to ensure maximum accuracy and stability in all temperatures.
The barrel length varies from 515 mm to 620, depending on version and caliber. And the 85 Finnlight II is chambered in a mind-boggling list of different calibers (some 14 in all), ranging from the 6.5 Creedmoor to the .300 Win Mag.
Sako 85 stainless steel action also come in different sizes, providing reliable functioning for each caliber. Both the action and the cold-hammer forged barrel are finished with a weather resistant Cerakote coating.
All Sako 85 models feature controlled cartridge feed (RCS) to eliminate double feed or cartridge jams and the turn-bolt handle places the hand in a natural position during bolt operation, which allows for rapid repeated firing.
Sako 85 Finnlight II with adjustable cheekpiece
What really makes the 85 Finnlight II special is the large square button placed in its stock, anyway. The height of the cheekpiece can in fact be adjusted by simply pressing this button – no screws, bolts or knobs – therefore making the rifle perfectly customizable for the shooter's preferences.
The grip surfaces and the cheek piece are made from robust elastomer, which is also pleasant to the touch.
Being optics ready the 85 Finnlight II has no sights. The single stage trigger, the detachable stainless steel magazine and the special two-way Sako safety that locks both the trigger and the bolt handle complete this nice Finnish package, whose retail price is 2475 USD / 1994 euro approx.
