At IWA 2018 Blaser showcased its R8 Silence, a newly developed model of its popular R8 bolt-action hunting rifle series. With its integrated silencer, where allowed by law of course, the R8 Silence offers a solution for hunters who want to reliably protect their own hearing as well as the hearing of their dog at all times. This model can be easily recognized thanks to its barrel and silencer contour, that gives the rifle a particular "bull-barrel" look.
The smooth design also allows the silencer to cool down at a much quicker pace due to its exterior surface being considerably larger than that of a conventional silencer.
Blaser R8 Silence, a well-balanced rifle
The R8 Silence is very well balanced too: since the silencer is not just added to the muzzle but is an integral part of the rifle, masses are evenly distributed.
Two R8 Silencer versions are available, one with a matt-black receiver and walnut stock in wood class 4 featuring a Bavarian cheek piece and double rabbet, and the other – the R8 Silence Black Edition – which combines an extravagant walnut stock in wood class 7 with gold-colored trigger and bolt head. The recoil pad is rubber.
Like other R8 series models, the R8 Silence can be customized in many details, from the bolt handle ball (that can be wood, steel with gold inlays or DLC coated) to the engraved pistol grip caps.
Other optional extras like the kickstop system and the gunstock cartridge carrier are available as well.
The R8 Silence is currently available only in .308 caliber, but according to Blaser website it will also be available in 8x57 IS and 9,3x62.
