We were able to test the Bergara Premier Approach rifle before the start of the SHOT Show 2018 at the Industry Day at the Range. The manufacturer guarantees an accuracy of less than 1 MOA using normal match grade ammunition. This corresponds to a group size of approximately 3 cm at a distance of 100 m.
Bergara Premier Approach bolt action rifle: features
The new Approach from the Premier series has a precision 416 stainless steel barrel with a Cerakote sand-coloured coating. The rifle from Bergara is available in 3 different barrel lengths depending on the caliber: 20 inches, 24 inches and 26 inches. The magazine capacity is 5 cartridges. There are 5 caliber variants to choose from: .223 Rem., .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, .22-250 Rem. and 6 mm Creedmoor.
The stock is constructed from glass fibre reinforced plastic and is very robust. The pattern is quite unique and is coloured grey and sand with black streaks. We really liked the design, because it marks a departure from the usual black or olive green. The stock has a raised cheekpiece. A rubber buttpad dampens the recoil and allows the rifle to be pressed comfortably into the shoulder. Swivels for a rifle strap are integrated into the stock.
Inside, the tried-and-tested Premier Action System is used. The bolt is made of stainless steel and much of the system is nitrided for better durability. The rifle has a 2-position safety that locks the trigger.
The Approach repeating rifle has no fixed sights, just an attachment for mounting accessories. The muzzle has a regular thread for silencers.
