GECO Gold 2.5–15×50i hunting riflescope: review & specs

The wholesalers Gustav Genschow & Co. sold binoculars with the abbreviated company name “GECO” as far back as the 1930s. GECO has revived this tradition and now offers riflescopes as well as binoculars in the entry-level line GECO alongside the hunting line Gold. In contrast, the Black line currently includes just riflescopes designed for the needs of tactical shooters.

The GECO Gold riflescope has a dimmable illuminated dot in reticle 4.

The following section describes the GECO Gold 2.5-15×50i riflescope in more detail as a representative of the new GECO optics.

Like all scopes in the Gold line, this one is also equipped with a 30-millimeter tube and a classic reticle 4 with an illuminated dot that can be activated and then dimmed in increments (GECOdot). It also comes with parallax correction from 15 meters to infinity.

The fitting to adjust settings is located on the turret to the left of the central tube, along with the dimmer dial and the battery compartment for the illuminated reticle.

Adjustment turrets on the GECO Gold riflescope
GECO has given the adjustment turrets the name “GECOtrac Target Turrets.”

A scale from 0–8 is used to adjust the illumination brightness for the fine GECOdot, which is powered by a CR2032 button cell battery. The elevation and windage adjustors are located beneath the protective caps on the other two turrets.

They can be zeroed without tools by pulling the dials and the scale upward, i.e. outward, rotating them to the zero mark and then pushing them back in again. Offering good purchase, the adjustment dials shift the aim point by one centimeter per click at a range of 100 meters. GECO claims that the field of vision at this range is 14.4 meters at minimum magnification, and 2.5 meters at maximum magnification.

The eye relief is around 9 centimeters. Like all optics in the Gold and Black line, the GECO Gold 2.5-15×50i has multi-coated HD lenses for extremely high light transmission. In total the riflescope weighs 700 grams and is 381 millimeters long.

You can buy the hunting riflescope for €1,295.00 from specialist retailers. The manufacturer gives a ten-year guarantee on the mechanics in the GECO Black and Gold riflescopes and a two-year guarantee on the electronics.
