Tanfoglio TSR .223 Remington semiautomatic rifle

First hinted to the general public in its prototype stage at the HIT Show in Vicenza (northern Italy) last month, Tanfoglio's first centerfire rifle ever – dubbed the Tanfoglio TSR – was finally showcased at the 2016 edition of the IWA OutdoorClassics expo in Nuremberg.

Tanfoglio enters the modern sporting rifles market with an AR-15 derivative, featuring a direct gas impingement (DGI) working system, built entirely in-house with Italian-made components and materials: the barrel blanks, the 7075-T6 aluminum alloy blanks used for the upper and lower receiver, the steel used for the manufacture of the bolt group, and the smaller machined components are all made in Italy. Even the free-float vented handguard is manufactured in Italy, although a Samson handguard was used as a stand-in for the show; only the full-length top MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny” rail, the polymer pistol grip, the fixed stock and its buffer tube will be imported from U.S.-based manufacturers.

The 20” barrel of the TSR rifle sports Tanfoglio's own machined flash hider; the TSR is chambered for the .223 Remington/5,56x45mm NATO caliber, and feeds through STANAG 4179 compliant magazines. What tells the Tanfoglio TSR rifle apart from all other AR-15s out there is the quality: the TSR offers such tight tolerance levels that basically nothing moves, crackles or wobbles upon handling, unlike with most MIL-SPEC AR-15 rifles or carbines. As a matter of fact, the Tanfoglio TSR rifle is a commercial-spec rifle, conceived to provide the maximum possible accuracy for 3-Gun, IPSC and other competition shooting specialties. A high-end rifle, the Tanfoglio TSR will be sold with a price tag exceeding €3,000.00 in Europe.

The company also showcased a prototype AR-10 variant of the platform, specifically conceived for long-distance shooting and chambered for the .308 Winchester (7,62x51mm) caliber. No further information has been disclosed so far.
