Ruger is further expanding its SR1911 lineup with a Target version chambered in 9mm Luger. No later than last June they added a 10mm Auto model, the first Ruger’s handgun in that caliber – we talked about it here : SR1911 pistol: the Ruger’s way to 10 mm Auto.
As the name implies, the new 9mm Target version is equipped with the nice adjustable target sights – the same sights that equip the 10mm Auto SR1911 (also a “Target” pistol), by the way.
Ruger SR1911 Target: technical features
Being very traditional, full size Series 70 design made out of stainless steel with a low glare finish and a bushingless stainless steel bull barrel, the two pistols share many features:
produced through precision CNC-controlled machining, they have a checkered backstrap and oversized beavertail grip safety, a flat mainspring housing, a lightweight aluminum skeletonized trigger with adjustable over-travel stop, skeletonized hammer and titanium firing pin, an oversized ejection port and integral plunger tube for slide stop and thumb safety.
Manual safety is ambidextrous. The 5-in / 127 mm barrel is black nitride coated and aided by a full length guide rod – still like in the 10mm Auto SR1911.
If mechanically there are no differences, what clearly distinguishes the 9mm Target version are the chevron slide serrations and the replaceable deluxe checkered G-10 grip panels that really give this handgun a modern, aggressive look. Magazine capacity is 9 + 1.
The 9mm SR1911 Target is priced the same as its 10mm Auto sibling, at 1,019 USD and ships with two stainless magazines.
