There is rarely a dearth of novelties at Ruger: in the last few days they have introduced some interesting variations on their most popular revolvers. Among them, a new 10mm Auto version of the GP100 Match Champion revolver that adds to the relatively few Ruger models in this caliber.
As the name implies, in common with other “match” revolvers the 10mm GP100 Match Champion can boast some niceties and received some extra care such as a factory-tuned action and ergonomic enhancements, with polished and optimized internals, a centering boss on the trigger and centering shims on the hammer to produce a smooth double-action trigger pull and a crisp and consistent let-off.
The rear sight is adjustable and is coupled with quick-change fiber optic front sight for rapid acquisition on both plates and targets.
The half-lug design, cold hammer-forged barrel is 4.20 in / 106 mm long, providing a reasonable sight radius. The barrel also features a 11-degree target crown for competition-level accuracy.
Ruger GP100 Match Champion: no technical surprises
Technically speaking there are no surprises. The triple-locking contoured cylinder locks into the frame at the front, rear and bottom for absolute reliability and durability even with powerful loads. The chamber mouths have a light chamfer to aid loading.
Cylinder has a traditional capacity of 6 rounds. The patented Ruger grip frame design easily accommodates a wide variety of custom grips, and takedown requires no special tools, allowing for easy maintenance and assembly. As for safety, the patented transfer bar mechanism provides a reliable measure of security against accidental discharge.
The GP100 Match Champion in 10mm Auto is equipped with custom Hogue hardwood grips featuring stippled sides for a firm purchase. With a suggested retail price of 969 USD, the revolver ships with three full moon clips that acting as speed loaders allow for convenient loading and ejection.
