SAVAGE ARMS is currently the world’s largest manufacturer of bolt-action rifles (single shot and repeater). In total, the company produces roughly 400,000 weapons per year in its factories at the US company headquarters in Westfield, Massachusetts, and the Canadian city of Lakefield, Ontario. They include the repeater model 10 PC (Precision Carbine).

The four-round magazine on the PC 10 falls into the shooter’s hand after pressing the retainer on the magazine well.

The PC uses a repeating bolt action system and is only available in .308 Winchester or .223 Remington

We received a .308 to review. The bulky 51 cm barrel with 10″ rifling can accommodate a brake or suppressor thanks to the threaded muzzle. The rifle comes with the proprietary SAVAGE trigger named AccuTrigger, whereby ‘Accu’ stands for accurate. The system has an additional middle blade to block the trigger bar if it is not pressed at the same time as the – in our case crisp – blade itself. The AccuStock with aluminum pillar bedding is also reputed to improve precision. In this system, a steel ring extending downward between the barrel tube and the receiver acts as a recoil lug. The bolt moved smoothly through the receiver without any problem. It locks with two pairs of front lugs arranged in a row: the front pair is fixed in place, while the rear pair moves freely. Savage calls the system the ‘Floating Bolt Head.’ The slide safety on the side of older model 10s has been replaced in the newer versions with an almost noiseless three position safety on the neck of the stock.

Floating Bolt Head
Savage calls its four-lug action the ‘Floating Bolt Head.’ The rear pair of lugs (arranged in parallel here) rotates freely and is mounted on the support with bearings.
